Mr. Lloyd Rufus Taylor, age 84, a resident of Chocowinity, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Pastor Ola Forbes Jr.

Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Gregory Taylor Sr., Vicki Taylor Vaughan, Gopher Vaughan, Ledrue Buck, Van Stubbs and Warren Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Haddock and Philip Elks.

The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

Mr. Taylor was born in Beaufort County on September 16, 1932, son of the late William Rufus Taylor and the late Dollie Elks Taylor. He was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. On January 21, 1955, he married the former Josephine “Jo” Harris who preceded him in death on April 19, 2017. Mr. Taylor was a self-employed farmer who later became co-owner/co-operator of Farmers Supply of Chocowinity. He also sold fertilizer for Blount Fertilizer Co. and then Royster-Clark of Grimesland. Mr. Taylor was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church of Chocowinity and a member of Farm Bureau, where he served in the past on the board of directors and was a member of the Eastern Antique Power Association. He was an avid member of Chocowinity Saddle Club and numerous horse organizations. Mr. Taylor also was the owner of Triple T Appaloosas.

Survivors include a son: Gregory Taylor and wife Barbara; a daughter: Vicki Taylor Vaughan and husband Gopher, all of Chocowinity; a brother: Haskell Taylor of Chocowinity; three grandchildren: Greg Taylor Jr., Robyn Taylor Hales and husband Michael and Dustin Ryan Dixon and wife Brandy; four great-grandchildren: Caitlynn Nicole Taylor, Justin Blake Manning, Chase Michael Hales and Lena Marie “Curly” Nobles. Mr. Taylor was predeceased by a brother: Rayvon Taylor and five sisters: Ruth Taylor, Mildred Taylor, Esther Buck, Della Mae Stubbs and Judy Martin.
