Beaufort County inmate dies of medical condition

An inmate at the Beaufort County Detention Center died this week, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, on Monday, Cory Edward Anderson, of Core Point Road, Blounts Creek, an inmate who was serving a 30-day sentence for a probation violation, died at the Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington as a result of a medical condition.

The release stated that Anderson began serving his sentence on April 28.  On Sunday, Anderson reported that he was not feeling well to the nurse on duty at the detention center and was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Sheriff’s Office staff has been in contact with Anderson’s family, hospital staff and the local district attorney’s office, as well as state officials, throughout this incident.

The sheriff’s office has said that no further information will be released at this time.
