SWAN QUARTER — Hyde County Farmers Market is set to soon return for its second year.

Organizers are busy ironing out the details of this year’s market before opening to the public, according to Anna Motteler, public health educator at Hyde County Health Department.

“We are currently in the process of trying to identify a market manager and set a schedule, but have yet to do so,” Motteler wrote in an email. “It should be very soon.”

Hyde County Department of Economic Development and Planning, the health department and the county’s Cooperative Extension revived the countywide market last year after receiving grant money to establish programs to increase residents’ access to fresh foods. The farmers market officially opened May 28, 2016, and remained open the last Saturday of every month until early December.

Vendors can sells anything from arts and crafts to fresh produce, seafood and homemade baked goods. The cost for vendors is $10 for the whole year, and vendors must also present a Certificate of Registration, business card and proof of vehicle liability insurance, according to the 2017 application.

The market often coincides with other events in Swan Quarter, including those at MATTIE Arts Center and Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department.

Motteler said in a previous interview that the market is a good way for residents to come out and enjoy spending time in Swan Quarter, while also providing access to much-needed, quality food products and other items.
