Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jones Barr, age 83, a resident of 1367 E. Barr Rd., Chocowinity, died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at her home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Barr Family Cemetery, located at 2757 Gray Rd., Chocowinity. The service will be officiated by Chaplin Daryl Kelly. Howard Lilley, Will Lowe, Wayne Harding, Phil Harding, Thomas Barr and Justin Alderman will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
Mrs. Barr was born in Beaufort County on May 8, 1934, daughter of the late James Franklin Jones Sr. and the late Essie Florence Hill Jones. She attended Chocowinity High School. On August 6, 1949, she married Barney Ernest “Tommy” Barr Jr. who survives. Mrs. Barr served her family as a homemaker and helped on the farm. Her working career was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service where she retired. Mrs. Barr was a member of Haw Branch Church of Christ. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed her flowers.
Surviving along with her husband Tommy of the home includes a daughter: Tina B. Morris and husband Don; two sons: Ray Barr and wife Patty and Jay Barr and wife Kim, all of Chocowinity; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barr was predeceased along with her parents by a son: James “Eli” Barr; two brothers: James “Frank” Jones Jr. and Richard Jones; two half-brothers: Edward E. Barr and Myron Barr and a half-sister: Hazel Marie Bright.
