Surveillance prompts heroin charges

On June 6, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Alex Reed Spain, 29, of 312 Williamsburg Road in Washington. Spain was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Spain’s arrest stemmed from investigators conducting surveillance on a residence involved in the distribution of heroin. Investigators witnessed Spain arrive and depart from the residence driving a silver Honda Accord.
Investigators conducted a traffic stop and a search on Spain after he departed from the residence. Investigators found a plastic bag containing heroin, a syringe and two spoons containing heroin residue.
Spain was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond.
