Area youngsters are exploring their creativity this summer in a series of camps hosted by Arts of the Pamlico and the Turnage Theatre.

The series is a joint venture between Arts of the Pamlico and the City of Washington’s Department of Parks and Recreation, according to AOP children’s program director Dylan Ritch.

“Most of the camps we are offering are a week long, from Monday through Friday,” Ritch noted. “We have 14 camps on the schedule, and about 10 of those still have limited space available.”

June camps are focusing on visual arts, and the topic will shift to theater and performing arts in July. August camps will focus on music, Ritch said.

Campers may learn to play a musical instrument and dabble in songwriting, with science, robotics and engineering incorporated as well. Young artists will experiment with various mediums, and a puppet show is planned.

“It’s all about their creativity and their ideas,” Ritch said.

Full day camps (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and half-day camps (8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) are offered.
