The Washington (evening) Rotary Club held its weekly meeting Thursday, July 6, at the Washington Yacht & Country Club.

Following a time of fellowship in the Upper Deck, members assembled in the Pamlico Room where President David McLawhorn convened the meeting.

Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang “America the Beautiful,” and Capt. Bruce Rabon, Salvation Army, and club chaplain, offered the blessing.

After the meal, Brownie Futrell was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow plus-one, one of Rotary’s most prestigious designations.

Serena Sullivan gave a very comprehensive Health and Happiness report.

David McLawhorn then offered a “President’s Farewell Address,” giving credit to all in the club who had worked so selflessly and effectively in realizing goals and objectives. McLawhorn, who served as president also in 2000, served two terms this time, stepping in following the sudden passing of long-time Rotarian Whit Blackstone.

He also thanked Bill Wall and Sam Grimes, recognizing their faithful service of many, many years as treasurer and secretary, respectively, noting that they were invaluable to the success of the club.

Brownie Futrell then formally inducted the new president, Todd Williamson. He gave a brief history of Todd’s Rotary service, to include being president in 1999.

The new president provided brief remarks and observations, and expressed confidence that the club would continue its mission to serve humanity.

President Williamson’s wife, Lourdes, then came forward to place the president’s pin on her husband’s lapel.

Members recited the Rotary Four-Way Test, after which Williamson declared the meeting adjourned.
