The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period, President Todd Williamson called the meeting to order. Following the evening meal, Williamson called on program Chairman David McLawhorn to introduce the guest speaker. He welcomed Dr. David Loope, newly appointed president of Beaufort County Community College. Loope has connections to eastern North Carolina and is excited to be in his new position. He gave members a snapshot update of the college, along with some short- and long-term goals. BCCC serves the largest area in the N.C. Community College System, over 2,000 square miles. Over 6,000 headcount students enrolled in over 20,000 classes in 2016-2017. Loope stressed the fact that BCCC is a teaching college and the importance of keeping the community involved in the community college. As of right now, enrollment is up for fall, and things are looking good. After his presentation, Loope was presented the treasured Rotary pen. President-elect Norm Koestline closed the meeting by leading members in reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
