This year the library will be honoring the theme of “Build a Better World” during the Summer Learning Program. On Wednesday afternoons, beginning on Wednesday, June 21st and running through Monday, July 24th, the library will be sponsoring youth programming beginning at 2:00 in the conference rooms. The kickoff program on Wednesday, June 21 will be Gary Shelton with “Experience the Magic of a Better World.” Mr. Shelton, a native of New Bern, NC, will be entertaining everyone with magic and laughter during his performance.
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science will be presenting “Reptiles that Make Our World Better” on June 28th. These animals are cold-blooded vertebrates that are plentiful in our area. This will be a fun program for the children to learn some fun facts about reptiles and amphibians.
July 5th, the library staff will present a “Mystery Program.” This program will be limited to 18 participants, so if your child plans to attend, they must sign up in advance. This will be the only program that requires the child to be signed up to attend.
On July 12th, Laurie Kent, a resident of Edenton, will be presenting “Have Oceans of Fun (with Yoga Poses).” Yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body. Participants will be introduced to basic relaxation techniques that enhance flexibility and balance.
Storytelling has become a lost art in today’s society. Everyone in attendance will be treated to a unique program when Jessica Armstrong, a native of Columbia, presents “Stand Up to Bullying (in a Caring World) on July 19th. This topic is a necessity for children of all ages.
Finally, on Monday, July 24th, one of our favorites, the Balloon Lady will be returning to wind up our summer learning program. This will be a high intensity program that you will not want to miss. This show will break the tradition of Wednesday programming and will take place on Monday afternoon. All programs will be free to the public. So mark your calendars if your children plan to attend.
