The Washington Kiwanis Club has awarded $1,200 scholarships to three local Key Club seniors. Jamya M. Moore was honored at a recent Kiwanis Club luncheon meeting. The remaining recipients will be recognized at future club meetings.

Moore, a recent graduate of Southside High School, told club members of her plans to pursue an information systems degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was active in the Kiwanis-sponsored Key Club during high school.

Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including the annual lobster sale, the Washington/Kiwanis Christmas parade and the annual golf tournament.

The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue in Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
