SALISBURY — Food Lion will celebrate the grand opening of its newest North Carolina store, located at 851 Washington Square Mall in Washington, on Wednesday.

The store will open to the public at 8 a.m. Wednesday, following a 7:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. As part of the celebration festivities, the first 100 customers in line will receive a $10 gift card and thermal tote bag. Also at the ceremony, Food Lion will make a $2,000 donation to the Food Bank of the Albemarle from the grocer’s hunger-relief initiative, Food Lion Feeds, to assist the food bank in its efforts to end hunger in the community.

“Food Lion has been a proud member of the Washington community for more than 20 years and we look forward to creating an easier shopping experience for our customers,” said David Garris, Food Lion’s director of operations for the greater Washington area. “We look forward to welcoming you to our new store.”

Customers will experience a new walk-in garden cooler in the store’s produce section, expanded offerings in the deli department, more organic produce and an in-store Artisan pizza bar. In addition, customers will experience an expanded floral area and deli sections, featuring an expanded selection of grab-and-go meals, a wing and soup bar and other new items.

In addition to its community donation, Food Lion will provide gift baskets and gift cards to local city and county emergency services and shopping center neighbors to show the organization’s appreciation for serving the Washington community.

Food Lion’s new Washington store will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
