A local nonprofit will be honored at the East Carolina Motor Speedway this Saturday.

East Carolina Motor Speedway has named its Saturday night event “The Angels N Camo 250,” in support of the nonprofit Angels N Camo, an organization that aims to fulfill hunting and fishing adventures for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Members from the organization have attended races at East Carolina Motor Speedway previously, according to Lisa Adams, founder of Angels N Camo. However, this marks the first time the organization has been highlighted at the speedway.

“It’s cool. This is the first time a race has ever been named after us. It’s pretty awesome,” she said.

John Vick, promoter at East Carolina Motor Speedway, said he’s a fan of what Angels N Camo aims to do in the community, and thought the organization would be a perfect fit for a sponsor of the event.

“Angels N Camo has been coming out to the track for about two years. I decided to let them be a sponsor. … It just crossed my mind with hunting season coming up that it would be a good idea. We’re going to have fun,” Vick said.

Vick said there will be seven race divisions on Saturday night, as well as ATVs for children to race and drive around.

He said there will be a dunking booth and 50/50 raffle, and all of the money raised from that will go directly to Angels N Camo.

“We’re trying to come up with some money at the event that goes to them and will help them out,” Vick said.

Adams said her organization will be there with a trailer selling merchandise. She said one of her supporters, Thomas Barbage, will be there racing with an “Angels N Camo” decal on the roof of his car.

“He likes what we do. He’s just supported us. Why not put the logo on the car?

Now, people ask questions and people get to know who we are,” Adams said.

Vick said he is attempting to make Saturday’s event a real outdoor extravaganza to fit with Angels N Camo’s values. There will be a fish casting contest and archery contest. Vick has also purchased several swimming pools.

“We really try to support the communities and different organizations. Heck, I even shaved my head for a young lady who had cancer. I’m just now getting my hair back,” Vick laughed. “If somebody is in need, we will help them.”

The event begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/military, $8 for ages 7-17 and free for ages 6 and under. East Carolina Motor Speedway is located at 4918 U.S. Highway 64 alternate in Robersonville.
