ECA to sponsor 4th-annual local foods contest

The Tyrrell County Extension and Community Association will sponsor the fourth-annual Local Foods Culinary Arts Contest as part of the Scuppernong River Festival.

Entries should be from locally grown produce and/or game. This event is open to anyone ages 6 and up. Categories are: Canned Fruit, Dried Fruit, Canned Vegetable, Dried Vegetable, Canned Meat/Fish, Dried Meat, Wine, Jam/Preserves, Jelly, Pickles and Relish. Registration form and entries are due at the Tyrrell County Extension Center in Columbia on Oct. 13 between 8 a.m. and noon.

First-place winners in each category will receive a blue ribbon, second-place winners will receive a red ribbon and all other

entries will receive a green participant ribbon. Grand prize winners in each age division (6-12, 13-17, 18 and up) will receive a purple ribbon. Entries will be on display at the Information Booth during the Scuppernong River Festival on Oct. 14.
