Sewer use ordinance amended

The Tyrrell County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 15 amended the Sewer Use Ordinance to require all new dwellings and other structures with toilet to be connected to the county’s sanitary sewer service if the property is within 500 feet of a county sewer line.
The action followed an advertised public hearing at which David Clegg, county manager, explained the change. No one spoke pro or con on the proposal.
Existing buildings are not affected by the change in the law.
The amendment lengthens the distance from 200 to 500 feet to conform with the county’s Subdivision Ordinance and to extend the reach of the county’s growing wastewater collection and disposal enter outlet.
The county planning board recommended the amendment after conferring in May with Johnny Spencer, utilities director, and building inspector Joie Spencer.
