Petty’s two goals push Southside past Southwest Edgecombe

CHOCOWINITY — Southside scored two goals in the first half en route to a 3-1 win at home over 2-A foe Southwest Edgecombe. Caleb Petty led the way as he found twine twice and assisted on the Seahawks’ third goal.

Santiago Serralde added another goal. Goalkeeper Johan Prado saved seven shots as the Seahawks held the Cougars to just a second-half score.

The win was Southside’s eighth of the season. It hosts Hertford County on Wednesday for the second of its four-game home stand.

Lady Pack tennis matches soccer score

Washington’s girls’ tennis team met the bar set by the Pam Pack soccer squad. Just before Washington blanked Ayden-Grifton’s soccer team, the girls barreled past the Lady Chargers in a 9-0 sweep.

The win puts Washington above .500 in 2-A Eastern Carolina Conference play. It was the first of three matches in the week.
