Like many other jobs that require interaction with the public, selling real estate involves some risk. The National Association of REALTORS is committed to protecting its members and maintaining their personal safety. By educating REALTORS about potential threats and providing them with resources to protect themselves, NAR can help REALTORS stay safe. As part of NAR’s ongoing efforts to keep its members safe, the association dedicates September as REALTOR Safety Month.

In observance of REALTOR Safety Month, Washington-Beaufort County Board of Realtors invited Chief Deputy Charlie Rose of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to the quarterly membership meeting held on Sept. 27, to discuss the “best practices” to stay safe. These included listening to your “gut feeling that something is wrong” with a person or situation and leaving the scene as soon as possible to avoid harm. He encouraged the REALTORS to practice what he referred to as “situational awareness” at all times to ensure they are not at risk.

All in all, it was a very informative presentation and all REALTORS present benefited from this reminder that most importantly we must stay safe. Our thanks to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s office for all they do every day to fight crime, protect our lives and properties, enforce law and ordinances and maintain order.
