Mrs. Verna Dell Moore “Sister” Faucette, age 102, entered her Heavenly Reward on October 16, 2017.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, located at 2110 Old New Bern Road, Chocowinity. The service will be officiated by Pastors Henry Horne, Kevin Woolard and Andrew Horne. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Walker Faucette, Holt Faucette, Tony Faucette, Paul Keel, Joshua Faucette and Brownie Futrell will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Faucette was born on January 18, 1915, daughter of the late Richard Moore and Elizabeth Edwards Moore. She married Joseph Walker Faucette who preceded her in death in August 1963.
Mrs. Faucette was a long-time member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and began attending Union Chapel as a newborn infant, so fragile she was simply called “Sister.” She was honored to be called “Granny” and “Fa-Fa” by many who had the privilege to know her.
Mrs. Faucette was a hard worker all her life. Until her health prevented it, she was a farmer and tended a large garden. She was a “country” cook and was known for her “cheese” biscuits, even receiving recognition for them in the Boston Globe.
Mrs. Faucette was recognized as Washington Daily News Mother of the Year and celebrated at Union Chapel at 100 years of age. Her faith in God was the stronghold of her life. She touched the lives of all who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith and family values.
She is survived by her children: Josephine F. Lewis of Chocowinity, James Holt Faucette and wife Myra of Greenville, Ed G. Faucette and wife Velma of Chocowinity and Sarah D. Faucette of Chocowinity; her grandchildren: Wanda Brand (JA), Walker Faucette (Alice), Holt Faucette (Page), Kristy Romanga (Randy), Tony Faucette (Lisa) and Allison Oliver (Chris) and her daughter-in-law: Rose Faucette. Her five-generation legacy includes 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son: William C. Faucette; her granddaughter: Karen Lewis; her son-in-law: Larry D. Lewis; three brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity, and other times at her home, located at 585 Mill Road, Chocowinity.
Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, P. O. Box 38, Chocowinity, NC 27817.
