From her, to her

A campaign designed by women is making strides to impact young girls in Beaufort County.

It’s an organization called Daughters of Worth, and it’s showing young women in the community they are treasured, loved and special with its “Notes of Hope” campaign.

While the campaign started its mission in Pitt County, Daughters of Worth has now partnered with Beaufort County Schools, including S.W. Snowden Elementary and Chocowinity Middle schools, to show girls that people care about them.

The idea behind “Notes of Hope” is that a woman “adopts” a girl from one of these schools for the year, and every month, a handwritten letter is delivered to the girls at school. The letters are filled with words of positivity, encouragement and inspiration, and are designed to lift the girls’ spirits.

It’s been said beauty comes from within — and this campaign has the power to make girls believe in themselves, and in turn, could make a big difference down the road.

Words carry strong meaning — they have the power to affect one’s day-to-day life and level of self-esteem. It’s easy for girls, especially at a young age, to get influenced by negativity. But it can be just as easy to be influenced by positivity, and that’s exactly what this campaign aims to do. Instead of surrounding a girl with hateful, insulting words, the notes will fill a girl’s life with words of love. It can go a long way in both academic and personal matters.

This is an organization designed by women for women. They are women who know the struggles of being a young girl, and who have personally experienced hardship and adversity. They are women who are writing from their own experiences. They are women who take an hour out of their day at a monthly writing session to positively impact a girl — a girl they may never even meet.
