CHOCOWINITY — Incumbent Jimmy Mobley has been elected to a sixth term as mayor of Chocowinity.

Mobley beat out challenger and first-term Chocowinity Commissioner Curt Jenkins by 147 to 33 votes, according to preliminary results from the Beaufort County Board of Elections.

“I’m very honored and humbled that they would see the good that we’re doing and that we’ll also continue carrying on the business of the town,” Mobley said Tuesday night after election results came in. “I thank the citizens of the Town of Chocowinity, that we can keep moving forward. We have so much good going on. … It’s very humbling that the citizens of Chocowinity have that much confidence in us, and we appreciate the opportunity to continue working for them.”

Jenkins is two years into his first four-year term on the town’s Board of Commissioners.

Two of the four seats on the town’s board were also up for grabs this election cycle. Incumbents Louise Furman and William J. Albritton retain their seats on the board, as Albritton pulled in 118 votes and Furman, 107. Challenger Elizabeth A. Ange had 65 votes.

All vote totals are unofficial until the Board of Elections canvass, which is slated for Nov. 17.
