The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of scholarships through the BCCC Foundation for the fall 2017 semester. Scholarship applications for spring 2018 are due Nov. 25.
Mara Coltrain has received the State Employees’ Credit Union Scholarship. Coltrain, 18, is the daughter of Gregory and Tiffany Coltrain of Belhaven. She is working toward an associate in arts degree. The Belhaven resident attended Northside High School. She currently works as a veterinary technician at Pamlico Animal Hospital and plans to continue her education at a four-year university.
Miranda Crisp has received the James & Evelyn Smith Scholarship. Crisp, 25, is the daughter of Sandy and Ken Armstrong of Greenville and the wife of Tyler Crisp. She is working on general education classes as a pre-nursing student. The Greenville resident attended D.H. Conley High School. She currently works at Vidant Medical Center as a unit secretary in the NICU. She plans to obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing before getting her master’s in nursing.
Michael Lynn Everett has received the Tri-County Broadband Scholarship. Everett, 41, is the daughter of Peggy Blake and the late Michael Everett of Belhaven and a mother of one. She is an education student, with plans to become a special education teacher. The Washington resident attended Emmanuel Christian School. She is a stay-at-home mother and educator.
Nickolas King has received the Kimberly & David Teeter Scholarship. King, 18, is the son of Kelly and Russell King of Plymouth. He is part of the computer information technology program. The Plymouth resident attended Northside High School, and he plans to transfer to a four-year institution. He currently works at Old Town Country Kitchen as a dishwasher.
Sarah Lapp has received the Tayloe Hospital Pharmacy Medical Scholarship. Lapp, 29, is the daughter of Daniel and Jeanette Woods of Washington and wife of Nathan Lapp. She is working on her associate degree in nursing. The Washington resident attended Woods Christian Academy. She is currently working as a certified nurse aide II at Vidant Beaufort Hospital and plans to work as a nurse in labor and deliver or pediatrics.
Mallory Phelps has received the Jarl & Grey Bowers Scholarship and Hackney Scholarship. Phelps, 22, of Roper, currently works as a secretary at Barnes Logging.
She is working toward an associate degree in nursing, and she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Phelps attended Southside High School. She is the wife of Lucas Phelps, a mother of two and the daughter of Stephanie and Michael Fore of Chocowinity and Ray and Effie Beddard of Washington.
Michael Savage has received the Jarl & Grey Bowers Scholarship. Savage, 18, is working on his degree in agribusiness technology. He is the son of Robert and Sandy Savage of Gates. The Gates resident attended Gates County High School, and he plans to grow his farm business. He currently owns and operates Savage Patch Farms Produce.
Rahaeem Shelton has received the BCCC Staff Association Scholarship. Shelton, 22, is the son of Patricia Shelton. He is working on an associate in arts degree, and he plans to transfer to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro to major in social work. The Chocowinity resident attended Southside High School. He currently works at Lowe’s.
Michael Rees has received the J. Bonner Paul Scholarship. Rees, 20, is son of Tammy and Mike Rees of Washington. He is working on his degree in business administration, and he plans to own a business. The Washington resident attended Washington High School. He currently works at Rutledge Mini Storage.
