Two Greenville teams squared off in Washington on Saturday to decide the winner of the 8U Super Bowl. The day’s opening game saw Greenville Titan Black’s Chase Crandell run in his third touchdown to go ahead with less than four minutes to play.
Mason Rawls made the final stop for Black, sealing the close win over its Greenville Titan Green counterparts.
Crandell struck first with a touchdown run with 1:15 left in the opening period. Jaleek Parson punched in the 2-point conversion to give Black an 8-0 lead.
Yihiem Gibbs answered with a run into the end zone of his own, but Green couldn’t get the conversion to go, so Black took an 8-6 lead into halftime.
Black, set to receive the second-half kickoff, looked to add to its marginal advantage. Kasyn Chase’s pickup of 12 yards put Black inside the 10-yard line, positioning Crandell for a 7-yard score.
It looked like Black would run away with the game after recovering a fumble on the following series. Green’s defense bounced back quickly when Kameron Brock jumped on a fumble on the next play.
Momentum swayed toward the Green sideline once Gibbs ripped off a long run to set up an Ezra Meachem touchdown. Gibbs burst in for the conversion to knot the game at 14 apiece.
Meachem appeared to have broke off a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth, but a holding penalty brought it back. Green then turned the ball over on downs, allowing Black to march the other way for the winning touchdown.
