Beaufort County Board of Education member Eltha Booth was recently named to the 2017 All-State Board of Education.

Booth was first elected the local school board almost 13 years ago. She represents District 1 in the county, which covers the Washington attendance area.

Booth has also served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina School Boards Association, where she worked to increase Beaufort County Schools’ involvement in the association’s legislative policies and overall agenda. NCSBA nominated her for the all-state honor, which is awarded to up to eight school board members throughout North Carolina each year.

“She has great relationships with our parents and students and has their best interest at heart while serving the county as a whole,” board Chairman Terry Williams said of Booth in a previous interview. “She also plays a vital role in our local school board by representing Beaufort County well at the state level.”

Booth received the All-State Board of Education designation at NCSBA’s annual conference last week in Greensboro.

Superintendent Dr. Don Phipps said the statewide recognition of Booth’s work in education is well deserved.

“She has been very involved in school board activities at the local and state level. Mrs. Booth has represented our county well in her work,” Phipps said. “She is a devoted and highly engaged board member. We are fortunate to have her in Beaufort County.”

Booth lives in Washington with her husband, Beaufort County Commissioner Ed Booth. She was not immediately available for comment Monday.

Booth won re-election to the local Board of Education in the 2016 election. Board members serve in staggered, four-year terms. Her District 1 seat will be up for grabs again in 2020.
