On Tuesday afternoon, Southwest Airlines 1^st Officer Lee Rumley took this photo of the Pamlico River from 38,000 feet. Rumley, the son of Stewart Rumley and sister of Washington Daily News editor Vail Stewart Rumley, was flying southbound from Hartford, Connecticut, to Orlando, Florida, and received permission to divert the flight slightly so he could fly directly over his father’s house at Hawkins Beach, near Bath. The westward-facing view shows the Pamlico-Tar rivers, Chocowinity Bay, Washington and Chocowinity.
