From Historic Bath State Historic Site

 

BATH — The Historic Bath Christmas open house on Saturday will recall warm and relaxed Christmas celebrations. Holiday music, handmade crafts and cooking on the hearth will be highlights of the free program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take a break from the holiday mayhem and enjoy decorations and a celebration reminiscent of Christmases past. Apple cider and gingerbread will be shared. At 10 a.m., there will be a Christmas craft in the visitor center; at noon tours of the Palmer Marsh and Bonner House will begin. The Palmer Marsh House will host music performances by the Ad Hoc Players; a violin performance by Dawn Pooser will be held at the Bonner House, which will also host cooking demonstration in the kitchen, as well as an apple press demonstration. At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. readings of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be held.

Historic Bath became North Carolina’s first town and was incorporated in 1705. It was the colony’s first port of entry and was home to North Carolina’s first public library. The Visitor Center is located at 207 Carteret St. The site is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays, from 1.-5 p.m. For more information about special events, tours, weddings and parties, call 252-923-3971. Saturday’s open house is free, however, tickets are usually $2 for adults, $1 for students and apply separately for the Bonner and Palmer-Marsh Houses.
