The Down East Seniors Club held its Dec. 6 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Chip Ide led the singing of “God Bless America,” and Charles Smith gave the invocation. Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history.
Chip Ide reminded the members of the Dec. 20 Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. at Washington Yacht & County Club.
Charlie Moore introduced Tom Robinson, CPA, as the speaker. Robinson told about growing up in the North Carolina mountains, serving in the U.S. Marines, going to college, having several accounting jobs and moving to Washington in 1994 where he currently offers CPA services. He discussed provisions of the tax legislation that is now working through Congress. Many points of it are unclear until the House and Senate negotiate a combined version.
Bill Cates won the 50/50 drawing.
