The men and women of the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,026 law enforcement calls in October, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported recently to the county commissioners.

The sheriff furnished comparative data showing Kitty Hawk Police Department responded to 1,069 calls in October, and Manteo PD responded to 1,096.

Officers made 82 arrests on 105 charges in October. These included one simple assault, two worthless checks, one possession of stolen property, one vandalism, 17 drug violations, four contempt of court, three escapes from custody, 53 traffic except driving while impaired, and 23 other offenses.

Officers served 55 criminal and 32 civil papers in October.

Sheriff Liverman reported that deputies transported confined persons 2,177 miles and logged 42 and a quarter hours in that duty.

One person was fetched from Greensboro to Manteo on October 24. He was brought to Columbia for court and returned to Manteo the next day. He was then taken on October 26 from Manteo back to Greensboro. These trips totaled 986 miles and 20 hours of deputies’ time.

Thirteen males and two females were housed in the Dare County Detention Center in Manteo during October at a cost of $3,850.

Nine officers received a total of 168 hours of in-service training during October.

And the sheriff and his deputies drove 16,039 miles on duty in October.
