Law enforcement is still actively searching for the man believed to be responsible for the murder of a Belhaven man.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking for Jayquwan Lamar Newmones, 23, in connection to the Dec. 23 murder of 27-year-old Timothy Bernard Moore, of Old County Road, in Belhaven.

“At this point, we don’t really have any updates,” said Lt. Jim Vanlandingham, head of the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division. “We’re still in an active search for the suspect.”

On Christmas Eve, Moore’s body was discovered by a passing motorist off a dirt road, close to Beach Ridge Road in Belhaven. Moore was last seen around 8:30 or 9 p.m. on Dec. 23, according to law enforcement.

An autopsy determined the official cause of death was gunshot wound. Moore was shot multiple times, Vanlandingham said.

The warrant out for Newmones charges him with an open count of murder. Vanlandingham said in an earlier interview that Newmones is from New Jersey but had been living in Belhaven for several months.

“He was last seen here in Washington just a few blocks from our office,” Vanlandingham said. “It’s just hard to say where he’s at, at this point. If he’s here, he’s doing a good job of hiding from us.”

Newmones is described as being 5-feet, 5-inches tall. Beaufort County Crime Stoppers has authorized an award of $1,000 to anyone who has information leading to his arrest.

“Anybody who knows his whereabouts can contact us or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously, and we’ll act on the tip accordingly,” Vanlandingham said.
