Louise R. Fisher

Mrs. Louise Ward Ricks Fisher, age 88, a former resident of The Willows in Washington, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Ken Hall. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mrs. Fisher was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 10, 1929, to the late Hallett Ward Ricks and Doris Louise Barrington Ricks. On June 12, 1953, she married Harry Mayo Fisher who preceded her in death on April 30, 1988. Louise and Harry lived in Washington their entire life together. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Washington and was very active in women’s programs, committees and circles. She volunteered with the Red Cross and worked at the voting place for many years. Her last residence was at 408 Willows Court prior to moving into assisted living.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jane Vanderburg of Greenville, Joyce Coward of Roanoke, Virginia, three brothers, Ernest Gurkins of Arizona, Douglas Gurkins of Greenville, James Gurkins of Greenville and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank any and all who visited her and for all the cards, letters and notes of good wishes. Special thanks to the SILVERcare employees who attended to her while she was in the nursing home.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.
