Farm Bureau will sponsor motor vehicle meetings for farmers on January 30 at Columbia and January 31 in Engelhard.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol will offer a presentation covering Commercial Motor Vehicles as it relates to the farming industry. Topics discussed will include common driver and vehicle violations as well as state and federal regulations.

The new requirements for electronic Log books will be covered as well.

This will be open discussion, and you will be given the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Lunch will be provided.

A registered nurse from the NC Agromedicine Institute, a non-regulator agency, will be present at the meetings, offering free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.

Ultimately we want farming, logging, and fishing workplaces to be safe and healthy for all. In addition to the health screenings, we will offer information regarding the programs offered by the institute.

At this time our emphasis is on bringing awareness to the changes in the Work Protection Standards regarding respiratory fit testing. At these meetings, we will offer information needed to obtain medical clearance and fit testing in order to stay in compliance with the new regulations.

Each meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. to noon.

January 30: Tyrrell County Farm Bureau, 88 Travis Road, Columbia.

January 31: Martelle’s Feedhouse Restaurant, 33301 US 264, Engelhard.
