Vara “Tootsie” Woolard

Mrs. Vara “Tootsie” Ramona Jordan Woolard, age 87, a resident of Washington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at her home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Rev. Lee Hendricks.

Tootsie was born in Pitt County on Jan. 18, 1931, to the late George M. Jordan and Fannie Walker Jordan. She graduated from Chicod High School and finished her schooling at Tayloe’s Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Tootsie worked for Dr.’s Bell and Kidd dentistry before working at Beaufort County Hospital where she served for 20 years. On Feb. 10, 1951, she married the love of her life, Hertford Ray Woolard, who preceded her in death April 2, 2017. Tootsie was a constant gardener, an undiscovered artist and animal lover. She was known for her crafts and homemaking designs in her needle work. Tootsie was a strong, independent and loyal woman especially to her friends and family. She was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and she had a deep abiding faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with whom she is with now.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra R. Woolard of Titusville, Florida, a son, Gary R. Woolard, of Washington, a brother-in-law, David E. Woolard, of Greenville, numerous nieces and one nephew.

She is preceded in death by five sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
