Cory M. Murchison, 35, an inmate at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm north of Columbia, was arrested by the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office on February 6, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported.

Murchison was charged with conspiracy to sell and deliver a  schedule III controlled substance, and with possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance on prison/ jail premises.

The controlled substance was suboxone.

“The drugs were found in the inmate’s mail that came into the prison,” Sheriff Liverman stated. “This is the 32nd inmate at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm that has been charged with possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises since May 2017.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Suboxone is a medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate dependence such as heroin addiction, writes Sandee LaMotte, CNN. Experts say it works well because it binds easily with the same receptors as opiates.
