In the fields, atop fences, stalks and wires, Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is loaded with hundreds of brightly colored, Red-winged Blackbirds. They feed on insects grains and seeds. If you’re a birder it’s a great time to visit the Pungo Unit and observation locations on the refuge. Some refuge roads are undeveloped. Especially after wet weather choose roads carefully.
