The 11-14 girls’ division was a two-horse race. With the Lady Warriors and Lady Magic being the only teams in the age group, the championship had to go to one of the two. The Lady Warriors played a confident brand of basketball expected of a team that had handled the opposition all season long.
Saturday was no different as the Lady Warriors raced right to a title with a 45-20 win over the Lady Magic. To its credit, the championship bout marked the best fight the Lady Magic had put up this season.
The Lady Warriors got the jump early on. Taneja White and Kaitlin White helped them score the first 11 points of the game. Anastasia Levy got the Lady Magic on the board with a short jumper early in the second quarter.
The Lady Warriors responded with another flurry of 10 unanswered points. White had three buckets in the run. The Lady Magic ended the first half with consecutive baskets, but trailed 21-6 at intermission.
Zariyah Gorham and Samaiya Edwards each had a make early in the third, and the Lady Magic had their best period of the game, but it wasn’t nearly enough to close in on the Lady Warriors.
The eventual champion Lady Warriors closed out the game with a 10-0 run. Haley Whitley spearheaded it with three makes.
