WYBL Championships: Cavs blast Choco Farm Bureau

The Cavs scored the first seven points in Sunday’s 11-12 boys’ championship game. Then they notched the first 10 of the second half to fly past Choco Farm Bureau, 67-46, to win the title.

Jaylen Lampkins got the Cavs going early. His floater was the game’s first basket, and he pushed his team to a 7-0 lead with a 3-pointer. He followed a Jeari Davenport layup with another trey to extend the Cavs’ lead to 14-3, and force Choco Farm Bureau to call timeout.

CFB started chipping away at the deficit thanks to a 3 from Tayquan Blackledge. Davien Beverly took a feed from Larry Ebron for a layup to pull within single digits, 18-10.

Ebron knocked down a 3, and Blackledge followed with a layup to come as close as six, 21-15, before the Cavs pulled away again. They got back-to-back makes, and Jaavon Williams’ 3-point play helped push their lead to 32-19 at halftime.

Davenport had three layups early in the third as part of the Cavs’ 10-0 surge that put the game out of reach. Ebron did all he could to help CFB catch up, but the Cavs still maintained a 44-27 lead about midway through the third.

Davenport had consecutive baskets — including one from long range — and Cayden Council capped the third with a layup. With that, the Cavs took a 51-27 lead into the final 10 minutes.

CFB found some of its mojo late in the game. Dashawn Moore and Ebron had 3s down the stretch, but Lampkins answered each.
