Tyrrell County Schools Calendar Committee met on February 14 to prepare the schools’ educational calendar for the 2018-19 school year, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent, announced.

Because Columbia Early College High School is considered a Cooperative Innovative High School, legislation allows school to

start one week earlier than the mandated Monday closest to August 25th.

The committee is reviewing options to allow the high school to operate on a schedule that closely mirrors Beaufort County Community College with whom Tyrrell Schools have an articulation agreement for college coursework.

With an early start for high school, students in grades Pre-K through eight will begin approximately one week later than students in grades nine through thirteen.

School staff and the Board of Education are reviewing draft calendars and are expected to give their feedback soon.

“In the process of creating the instructional calendar, we weigh all options to allow the most educational benefit for all of our students,” Dr. Hoffman stated.
