MEET THE AUTHOR: Fifth graders at Chocowinity Middle School were treated to a personal presentation by author Sue Tuttle. Fifth-grade teacher Cindy Schneider invited Tuttle, who appeared in Civil War costume. Tuttle’s book, “Will’s Changing World,” gives a historical fiction chronology of a young South Carolina farm boy’s life in the weeks and days leading up to the firing on Fort Sumter. He sees conflicts that certainly existed in a child’s mind during that era. Tuttle, with more than 30 years in middle-school classroom education, entertainingly wove those past issues into applications for today’s students. (Chocowinity Middle School)
