Panthers golf sneaks past Riverside

BATH — Bryson Radcliffe shot a 79 to lead Northside past Riverside this week. Radcliffe tied the best finish among all golfers, and the Panthers (345) slipped past the Knights (354).

Gray Cowan also shot a 79 for Riverside.

Brennan Baldwin followed close behind Radcliffe with an 82. Braeden Cooper (91), Gray Lewis (93), Clark O’Neal (94) and Dustin Boseman (98) rounded out Northside’s top-six competitors.

The Knights had Jacob Tyson and Landon Gurganus finish in the 80s, but three shoot over 100.

Lady Seahawks down West Craven

VANCEBORO — Iyari Mondragon scored twice to push Southside past West Craven, 4-2, on Thursday. Savannah Edwards had five saves.

Sindy Chavez and Guadalupe Gobellan each scored, too. The Lady Seahawks will play their first of three games next week Monday at North Lenoir. They’ll be looking to keep the ball rolling after starting the season 2-0.

UCA picks up where it left off

KINSTON — Unity Christian started on the right foot Thursday at Bethel Christian. After a dominant 2017 season, UCA romped Bethel Christian, 22-1.

Macy Main was the winning pitcher. Thanks to a double play from the defense backing her, she faced the minimum of 12 batters in the five-inning win.

UCA was back in action Friday. It hosted Albemarle School for its home opener.
