From Pamlico Writers’ Group

Benjamin Disraeli wrote, “Almost everything that is great has been done by youth.”

In an effort to recognize the talents of the youth of North Carolina and to continue its commitment to literacy, the Pamlico Writers’ Group is pleased to announce its annual student prose and poetry writing competition. This year’s student theme is “Home,” and high school and college students across the state are invited to compete through prose and poetry to capture the attention of judges in no more than 2,000 words.

In addition to a cash prize of $100, the winners of this year’s juried contest will be published in and receive a free copy of the Pamlico Writers’ Group 2019 anthology. All students are required to have a sponsor to recommend them. Sponsors of winning applicants will also receive a free copy of the anthology. Online submissions opened on March 12 and close at midnight on May 31. There is no entry fee. The winners will present their writing and be recognized at an awards reception at the Turnage Theatre in Washington on June 24.
