Migratory Birds Head North

Tundra Swan and Snow Geese are just two migratory bird species making annual visits to Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (and other regional national wildlife refuges). Migratory cycles can vary with the weather, but these birds usually begin to arrive in large numbers in December and then start heading home in mid to late February.
