The Tyrrell County Board of Commissioners joined the Tyrrell County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Will Hoffman for “a closer look into our schools” on March 22.
Commissioners chairman Leroy Spivey, Commissioners Tommy Everett and Lawrence Swain, and County Manager David Clegg toured each of the schools during the morning, spending time with the building-level administration, teachers and students.
They observed a variety of classrooms, discussed class schedules with middle and high school students, and visited the Career and Technical Education program.
The group returned to the Board of Education meeting room for lunch and presentations highlighting the school district’s transportation and finance programs, the school social worker, and a discussion of school system safety initiatives.
“While many school boards and county commissions are at odds, we appreciate this strong relationship which has resulted in significant upgrades to our facilities, instructional resources and the addition of our social worker position,” said Dr. Hoffman. “We look forward to more opportunities such as this to collaborate as school and community partners to improve the educational experience for all of our students.”
