Pam Pack softball continues conference domination

AYDEN—The Washington softball continued its torrid run through conference play with a 13-0 win at Ayden-Grifton Friday night.

Washington (15-1, 9-0), currently first in the Eastern Carolina 2A conference, quickly established its dominance over the Chargers (10-6, 3-5) on Friday. The Pam Pack opened the game scoring four runs in the first inning. That was followed by five runs in the second and two more in the third.

Led by Emme Davis, Washington racked up fourteen hits in the game. The sophomore was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4. She also knocked in three RBI and scored three runs. Fellow sophomore Kaylee Elks outdid Davis by having four RBI on 2-for-4 hitting. Mary Dixon and Summer Campbell were the other two Washington hitters with multiple hits, as they both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Dixon chipped in with an RBI of her own.

Pam Pack pitchers Abbi Tucker and Savanna Craft combined to two-hit Ayden-Grifton. Tucker pitched four innings, striking out five Chargers, while Craft pitched the fifth and final inning, fanning two Ayden-Grifton batters.

The Pam Pack returns to action tomorrow with a home game against South Lenoir at 6 p.m.

 

Seahawks victorious as they hold off Trojan rally

CHOCOWINITY—A late offensive surge helped the Southside softball team hold off a Jones Senior rally, as the Seahawks won 9-4 at home last Friday.

Southside (9-5, 5-4) scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to increase its lead to 9-3 and ease any worries of a Jones Senior (5-10, 1-7) comeback. The Trojans had thoughts of pulling it off, scoring twice in the top of the fifth to cut the Seahawks’ lead to 4-3, but Southside erased any doubt of victory when it came up to bat in the bottom of the fifth.

The Seahawks collected 11 hits in the game. Of all of Southside’s batters who had more than one plate appearance, only one didn’t register a hit. Senior Symone Ruffin led the way with three hits, including a triple. Fellow seniors Danielle Ruffin and Kenzie Woolard led the Seahawks with two RBI apiece.

Junior Alysaa McLawhorn pitched a complete game for Southside. She allowed two earned runs on five hits. She struck out 11 Trojans, while walking two.

The Seahwaks next play tonight at 6 p.m., as they travel to Kinston to take on the Vikings.

 

Panthers maul South Creek

ROBERSONVILLE—Northside scored 11 runs in the first two innings against South Creek to coast to a 12-0 road win Friday night.

Northside (13-5, 6-2) opened the game with a four-run scoring spree in the first inning. Not to rest on their laurels, the Panthers followed that up by scoring seven runs in the second. South Creek (6-12, 1-7) never showed the offensive capability to come back, mustering up two hits for the game.

Northside collected 11 hits on the night, with seniors Reg Bishop, Matthew Marslender, Parker Boyd and Zachary Griffin all contributing two hits each. Junior Dawson Boyd led the way with three RBI, while Tanner Alligood chipped in with two.

Pitcher Zach Woolard picked up the win for the Panthers. He pitched three innings, giving up two hits and racking up seven strikeouts. Parker Boyd and Alex Waters combined to close out the game, pitching an inning each.

Northside next plays Tuesday, when it travels to Tarboro for a game at 6:30 p.m.
