The Down East Seniors Club held its April 25 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Chip Ide led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America,” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Charles Smith gave the invocation, and Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history. Bill Cates provided humor.

Charles Moore introduced Charles Rasmussen, owner of P&G Manufacturing, as the speaker.

Rasmussen first came to Washington in 1993 and worked for Weyerhauser. When P&G Manufacturing came up for sale, he and his wife purchased the company. Initially, the company was a general welding shop; now this 48-employee company is totally involved in the manufacture of housings for high-efficiency air filtration systems. The housings are supplied to other companies such as Flanders Filters and Camfil Farr who complete the filter assemblies. These filters are used in places where very clean air is required, such as hospital operating rooms, labs, pharmaceutical manufacturing and electronics manufacturing.
