THANKS, SEAN — The Daily News new sports editor, Sean Finnerty (love that Irish name), follows in the wake of two previous young sports scribes, both of whom were hard workers, quite competent and became my friends.

Young Sean has done something that is commendable, and that is to restore “Pam” to “Pam Pack” when writing about WHS girls athletic teams.

Now, if only the decision-makers at the school will do the same as relates to the uniforms of some of the teams.

“Pam Pack” is unique among team names anywhere in the land. Keeping the name is all about tradition. As is using only navy and white (no gray) school colors.

WALK OF FAME — This past WHS football season marked the first time since the inception of the athletic Walk of Fame some 30 years ago that no inductions were held. Didn’t happen.

Stones commemorating the inductees from the past several years have yet to be put in place. Disappointing.

WATERFRONT WI-FI — Isn’t it nice that internet service is available at our wonderful waterfront (and on Main Street)? Now, rather than wasting time enjoying the serene setting of boats and river, chatting with others, walking or jogging, WI-FI folks can devote their attention to their computer, tablet or smartphone.

I mean, who needs nature or pleasant social interaction or exercise?

A “PROBLEM” — My, how our language changes. Remember when things were a “problem?” Not so any longer for the folks we see and hear on television reporting and commenting on the news. No, sir. Things are now “problematic.” And we don’t have a “lot” of much of anything anymore. Now it’s a “ton of” whatever. A ton. That’s two-thousand pounds. Folks, that’s heavy.

And so, “at the end of the day,” we’ll use a cliché. But I won’t “double down.”

MY FAVORITE — Let me conclude today’s ramblings with a prayer written over two centuries ago by John Henry (Cardinal) Newman, an English theologian and author.

Although I’ve probably shared this with you previously, such numinous thoughts are worthy of repeating.

“Oh Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over and our work is done.

“Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and a peace at the last.”

Let the people say “AMEN.”
