Looking for arts and cultural close to home? The Arts of the Pamlico is a non-profit organization and the state-designated regional arts council for Beaufort and Washington counties, serving eastern North Carolina and beyond.

AOP will host “An Extra Penny” May 18–22 at the historic Turnage Theatre. Signature Inc will present the musical as a workshop, allowing the community to experience a behind-the-scenes look at bringing a Broadway-bound show together. A first run of the new musical was produced in 2017, and the lessons learned from its first showing will be put into action over five days of intense reconstruction and rehearsal in the theatre. “An Extra Penny” has been eight years in the making and the journey to Broadway is a constant evolution. AOP offers professional monthly productions for patrons to enjoy with the Broadway on the Big Screen series. May 13 will see the mother of all musicals, “Gypsy,” on the big screen. The revival earned several nominations for both the cast and creative teams. The broadcast will begin at 3 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre. June’s selection will be “Falsettos” on June 17 at 3 p.m.; July 15 at 2 p.m., AOP will show Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors;” and the summer will conclude with “From Here to Eternity” on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. The Broadway on the Big Screen series is being presented for free with a suggested donation of $5.

Musical movies are being offered by Arts of the Pamlico for an amazing low price of $5. Rock the Pamlico will host Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” on May 25. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m., and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m. July will see the fan-favorite movie musical “Grease” on the Turnage big screen on July 20. AOP is centering a sock-hop event around the movie with great music and a costume contest. The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7:30 p.m.

AOP is pleased to announce dates for live theatrical shows! Open auditions are set for “Nunsense,” July 9-10 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.; the show will be performed Sept. 29-30. Nov. 16-17, ECU School of Music, Department of Opera presents “A Little Night Music,” and on Nov. 20, AOP will present “A Christmas Carol.”
