Seventy-four clients were present when the Saturday Night Jamboree met recently at the First United Methodist Church on East Second Street in Washington. Registrar Tillie Braddy and Kathy Lilley signed in clients with loving assistance from Joyce Carawan.
DJ Redmen member Kenneth Beacham played music for dancing and listening pleasure. Elwood Sprouse led the activities and made announcements while loyal volunteers Michael Cutler and Kin Wood kept a watchful eye on the outside of the facility.
Martha Seligman led the “happy birthday” song to all clients who had May birthdays, while Joyce Carawan placed birthday hats on all the birthday clients.
A prayer was said by Lane Woolard, followed by sandwiches and the trimmings served by The Civitan on the Pamlico group.
The servers included: Phillis Roberson, Terry Connor, Sandra and Nina and Kent Buckman, Eric Sedlacek, Mike Sloan, Kate Oliver, Kelly Smith Greg, Pam and Kemp Huss and also Jamboree volunteers Kin Wood, Michael Cutler, Elwood Sprouse, Jim Sadler, Tine Woolard and Kathy Lilley.
The next Jamboree will be the annual Prom Night held on June 9, 2018, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and moved back to the Rodmen’s Lodge. All area mentally/physically-challenged residents and all volunteers are invited to mark their calendars. And come dressed for the Prom and pictures.
