The days of life on a family farm of yesteryear were celebrated May 12 during the Eastern Antique Power Association’s annual tractor show.

The event, long held in Chocowinity, marked a change of venue this year when it relocated to Washington. The club also has a new president, John A. Moore.

EAPA’s formation was sparked when several local farm and tractor enthusiasts took part in an agricultural expo held at the Pitt County Fairground, according to Moore. The expo was such a pleasant experience, and it brought back so many happy memories, the men decided to form the club. The idea of hosting a show soon followed.

“I think we started in 1997; I think that was our first show,” Moore recalled. “We grew from there and invited other people. We’ve had this show ever since.”

Along with antique tractors, members exhibit vintage lawnmowers, farm implements and other collectibles once used by residents of rural eastern North Carolina.

“We just love sharing these old tractors and the heritage they bring,” Moore said. “If you want to get someone to talk, just ask them about their tractor.”

The club tries to meet at local restaurants each month, but the schedule is not set in stone.

“It just varies, whenever everybody can get together,” Moore said.
