From Alternative Stage
On June 16 Alternative Stage and Le Moulin Rouge de Danse present the original comedy “Otis Loves Olive: A Radio Story” at Raised in a Barn Farm, 2100 N.C. Highway 33 East, Chocowinity.
“Otis Loves Olive” premiered April 27 as a sold-out fundraiser for Washington’s Open Door Community Center, a shelter for homeless women and children.
The June event includes a silent-auction fundraiser for Riley’s Army, a children’s cancer charity.
Carryout by Chrislyn will cater the meal. There will be a cash bar with beer and wine.
Set in Washington in spring 1941, “Otis Loves Olive” boasts a cast and crew of 20 actors, singers, dancers and technicians. The play includes an on-air talent showcase the staff of fictional radio station WBEA assembled to convince the owner he shouldn’t sell his business to a ruthless competitor.
As the show progresses, the audience meets stage manager V.S. Taylor, the main organizer of the showcase, and Otis Miller, a guileless janitor set on wooing secretary Olive Sharp. The cast includes a host of eccentric radio personalities, including advice columnists, a down-on-his-luck ventriloquist and an entrepreneur selling home brew.
Tickets for this dinner-theater presentation are $40 each. For ticket information, visit www.raisedinabarn.com or call 252-495-3398.
