From Arts of the Pamlico

 

Looking for arts and cultural close to home? The Arts of the Pamlico is a non-profit organization and the state-designated regional arts council for Beaufort and Washington counties, serving eastern North Carolina and beyond.

Movies have become a cornerstone of entertainment. Arts of the Pamlico has found a niche of presenting movies that patrons may have missed seeing in the theater or wish to relive seeing on the big screen. Tonight, the historic Turnage Theatre welcomes the beloved musical “Grease.” Before the movie begins at 7:30 p.m., patrons are invited to come enjoy some great ’50s and ’60s tunes at the sock hop that begins at 6:30 p.m. Costumes are encouraged for this happening event and the best ones will be rewarded!

August will see the return of Indiana Jones to the Historic Turnage Theatre big screen as Harrison Ford reprises his role in “The Temple of Doom” on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for both “Grease” and “Temple of Doom” are $5 cash or $7 with a credit card at the door.

September brings audience-participation movies to new heights with AOP. The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” returns to the Turnage Theatre for its fourth year on Sept. 7. “Rocky Horror” is an audience-participation event, which fans will tell you is half the fun. It is also a costume event with a prize awarded for the best-costumed fan. Tickets for this special event are $15 and those who purchase the first 50 tickets will get an audience-participation bag for free. The movie begins at 9 p.m., doors will open at 7 p.m. for concessions and fun. On Sept. 28, Rock the Pamlico will sponsor a showing of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely-Hearts Club Band” after a live musical Beatles tribute. Music begins at 6 p.m.; the movie begins at 7 p.m. Costumes are encouraged from your favorite Beatles era, character, song, etc. Costumes will be judged and prizes given out. Tickets for the Beatles Tribute night are $10 and include music and the movie.
