William Harmon Taylor, age 96, of Chocowinity died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
Mr. Taylor was born in Chocowinity on June 22, 1911. He was the son of the late Isaac “Simps” and Rachel Moore Taylor. He was the last survivor of their eleven children. Mr. Taylor attended Washington Collegiate Institute and was a blacksmith with his father at their shop on Highway 17 in Chocowinity. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chocowinity.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by three brothers; The Rev. Cannon J. Mitchell Taylor and his wife Florence Collins Taylor, Isaac Allen Taylor and his wife Dorothy H. Taylor and Jesse W. Taylor and his wife Frances T. Taylor. He also had five sisters; Fannie Taylor, Mamie T. Whitley and her husband Edward J. Whitley, Viola T. Colgate and her husband George Colgate, Mary T. Harvey and Myrtie T. Asby.
A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Chocowinity conducted by Dr. Richard Sheriff. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
Survivors include nieces Edna W. Spruill of Washington, N.C., Marjorie W. Sumrell of Chocowinity, N.C., Shirley T. Ronan of Washington, N.C., Patti T. Porter of Tacoma, Wa.; nephews Harry Collins Taylor of Vero Beach, Fla. and Samuel Hodges Taylor of Washington, N.C.; ten great nephews and thirteen great nieces.
