HONORED VETERAN: Anthony “Tony” Weichel (center), 89, was presented the Patriotism Award at the N.C. Disabled American Veterans State Convention recently. The award is the second-highest award NCDAV presents. Weichel is treasurer of Disabled American Veterans Chapter/Unit 48 in Beaufort County. Nominees for this award are considered for their love of our county, the enthusiasm they display, their ability to get others to join in and share their excitement and promoting those qualities stated in the preamble of the national DAV constitution.
“Tony spells this out daily. If I had 10 members with his love and enthusiasm, there would be nothing that this chapter couldn’t do for the men and women who have served,” said Juanita White, commander of the local DAV chapter.
Presenting the award are J. Kristofer Knowlton (left in photo), North Carolina DAV commander for 2017-2018, and Andy Marshall, DAV national 3rd junior vice commander.
